Walt write a report on whales
Whales
Whales are the largest animals in the world. The weight of one whale adds up to 30 elephants. They also have oily skin and live in the water.
Whales are mammals because they have real live babies and its young feeds off their mother’s milk for many months. The calf stays with its mother until it gets old enough to survive by itself. Its mother teaches it to swim, dive and look for food.
There are 2 groups of whales - one group with teeth and the other group without teeth. Whales without teeth are called Baleen Whales and they have bristles. Whales eat up to 8 tonnes of food a day. Whales with teeth eat dolphins and seals. Baleen whales eat small sea animals by swallowing them.
Sometimes whales get stranded because of old age or by rough storms. When they get stranded, lots of people try to help them back into the ocean.
Whales make noises to keep in touch or warn other whales of danger. They make sounds by thumping, clicking and squeaking.
Whales move by moving their tail up and down not side to side. Whales breathe out through their blow hole and when they blow out the water of their blow hole it goes ten metres high. Whales can also dive in and out of the water. When they are in the air, they are up very high. When they go back into the water, they dive down on their side making big splashes.
